Burundi Military Spokesman confirms troops killed in Al Shabaab attack
Burundi Military Spokesman Colonel Gaspard Baratuza has confirmed that his country has lost 50 soldiers in Al Shabaab attack on African Union base in Somalia.
Al Shabaab said it has killed more than 50 AMISOM troops in Lego town near Somali capital Mogadishu on Friday.
AMISOM confirmed the attack through its official twitter account but didnot give number of casualties on its side.
Speaking to DPA Germany News Agency in the capital Bujumbura, Colonel Gaspard Baratuza has said 50 Burundian soldiers lost their lives on Friday Al Shabaab attack without mentioning any injuries.
Al Shabaab Spokesman Sheikh Ali Mohamed Rage earlier on Friday gave similiar number to the media which he said were killed during an assault on AU base in Lego which is approximately 100 kilometres to Somali Capital, Mogadishu.
Other reports say AMISOM soldiers are preparing for counter offensive attack against Al Shabaab which residents in the area said are still in the town.
Burundi military is among African Union troops that are part of more than 22000 peacekeeping soldiers in Somalia mandated by UN Security Council in 2006.
